Vitamins: Why Looking After your Insides Also Matters
TLDR:
We know you’re busy and might not have the time to read the whole article. So here’s a quick 3-line summary to take away!
We LOVE talking about skincare. Skin is what you see first so we always feel the obvious move is to take care of it on the outside.
But what if we managed to convince you that the inside is just as important as the outside? If you decided that you should put just as much effort into what’s inside and not just the obvious? (We’re not saying you shouldn’t take care of your skin…you definitely should! But you should also look inside…)
What should I be doing to be healthy on the inside?
The first rule is to drink a lot of water. Simple, but effective. Coffee dehydrates the skin and studies have shown also that animal milk and dairy products contain hormones and other compounds that may contribute to inflammation and acne. The same applies to ingredients like refined sugar which can damage collagen and elastin, causing fine lines and wrinkles. Try and go for plant based milk where you can.
Food is an important component of the well-being of the skin and what we put into our body is essential and has an impact on our skin. Because we’re a wellness brand, we want to help you to realise that it’s super important to nourish your body with vitamins. And we can help!
Let’s take a deeper look!
Vitamin D has amazing anti-inflammatory properties that can help treat skin conditions like dryness, acne, psoriasis, eczema, and vitiligo.
Vitamin C is an incredible antioxidant and anti-inflammatory nutrient which is known to improve skin tone and texture, hydrate the skin, and reduce signs of ageing (sounds brilliant, right?)
Vitamin A helps to speed up healing, prevent breakouts and support the skin's immune system and it promotes natural moisturising.
Vitamin E is a fat-soluble vitamin that acts as an antioxidant helping protect cells from damage throughout your body. It’s found in our sebum (skin oil) but of course Sebum, along with vitamin E levels, naturally declines with age so it is important to keep it going.
Vitamin B plays a vital role in maintaining good health and well-being. As the building blocks of a healthy body, it also has a direct impact on your energy levels, brain function, and cell metabolism.
Sure, you can find vitamins in supplements and the reason why they are so popular is that sometimes they work. Note the word sometimes. However, despite the amount of research that’s been done on supplements, scientific evidence isn’t 100% clear.
But hang on, aren’t all vitamins good for you?
Yes, but it depends on how they are given to you. Some supplements may contain ingredients not listed on the label, which can be unsafe. To be brutally honest, you may not always know what’s in the packet. And of course, supplements aren’t a replacement for a nutrient-dense, healthy diet. Try and eat as much fresh fruit and vegetables as possible as part of a varied diet.
To be on the safe side, the best thing to do is to look for vitamins that come directly from nature, such as Chondus crispus more commonly known as Sea Moss.
You can find these vitamins in a number of skincare products. But we want to discuss one item in particular: our Sea Moss Gel. Sea moss is a type of algae which grows in a number of colours, various shades of green, yellow, purple, red, brown, and black. Red seaweed has soooo many vitamins and minerals, along with antioxidant properties which can help prevent damage to the skin cells.
And these are just some of its benefits:
- It’s great for the heart. With a higher fibre content than most vegetables, it can also improve your blood sugar control, help lower your cholesterol and reduce your risk of chronic diseases.
- It can help with weight loss: as it is high in fibres and therefore filling, you are likely to eat less
-
It can also boost your digestive system: Algae, including sea moss, is a good source of fibre and live bacteria. It can help replenish the good bacteria in our gut if you take sea moss gel on a regular basis.
Our Sea Moss Gel product is made from 100% Organic sun-dried Jamaican Sea moss (not farmed and totally natural). It contains 92% of the nutrients the body requires to function well including Vitamins B12, B2, C, zinc, calcium and magnesium
So if you want to boost your immune system and feel healthier, we recommend you incorporate it into your daily smoothies, soups or drinks. And the beauty of it is that you can also apply it to your skin mixed with your favourite skin cream. What more could you possibly ask for?
But seriously, even if you don’t use our Sea Moss Gel, please do consider adding organic vitamins into your wellness routine. You’ll feel tons better!
